About This Call
The 360 XOCHI QUETZAL Artist and Writer's Residency Program is located in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico on the shores of the largest lake in the country. The region offers perfect year-round climate with sunny weather 300 days a year and average daytime temperatures in the 70s. Chapala is located 25 minutes from Guadalajara International Airport and 45 minutes from Guadalajara, one of the largest cities in Mexico with abundant cultural resources including museums, galleries, and theatres. The program offers four live/work spaces with private kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms, and full bathrooms. Studio facilities include large work tables, generous wall space, desks, free wi-fi, a spinet piano for musicians, professional easels for painters, and a Kress kiln for ceramic artists that fires up to cone 6. All spaces are walking distance to a park with running track, pool, tennis courts, and walking trails, and 5 minutes from the malecon, a lakeside promenade.
The program supports artists, writers, and musicians over age 25 who demonstrate artistic accomplishment and submit a well-conceived residency project. National and international visual artists, photographers, writers, new media makers, and musicians are welcome to apply. Two-person collaborative teams are encouraged. One live/work space is earmarked for a writer and one for an emerging artist. Summer 2014 offers 1, 2, and 3-month residencies in June, July, and August. The winter residency runs December 16, 2014 - January 16, 2015 and the spring residency runs May 1 - May 31, 2015.
This is a free one-month residency that includes a private, fully equipped live/work space, free wi-fi, weekly maid service, a food stipend of 1,000 pesos, and all utilities. Residents are responsible for travel to and from Mexico, laundry, local transportation, and entertainment. Application fees are $36 for one month, $58 for two months, and $75 for three months. Applicants may submit up to 3 images, 2 audio files, and 2 video files (maximum 7 total work samples). Up to 3 applications are allowed per person. Contact [email protected] for more information.
