About This Call

The 360 XOCHI QUETZAL Artist and Writers Residency Program is located in Chapala, Mexico on the shores of the largest lake in Mexico. Three residents will be chosen for each residency. Chapala is located 25 minutes from an international airport and 45 minutes from Guadalajara. The region offers year-round climate with sunny weather 300 days a year and temperatures averaging in the 70s.

The residency offers separate accommodations for artists/musicians and writers. Artist/musician residents receive a large work table, 16 ft long x 8 ft high work wall, studio desk, free wi-fi, and access to a spinet piano. Writers receive a ground floor studio apartment with bedroom, living/writing space, kitchen, full bathroom, and free wi-fi. Both residencies include a beautiful home with kitchen and living room. The area provides walking distance access to a park with running track, pool, tennis courts, and the malecon, a park-like promenade along the lake. Chapala and nearby Ajijic have dozens of cafes, galleries, and hundreds of artists.

This is a free one-month residency. The May residency runs May 1-31, 2014, with some flexibility on dates. Included benefits: free wi-fi, weekly maid service, food stipend of $1,000 pesos, and all utilities. Residents are responsible for laundry, local transportation, entertainment, and additional food. Travel to/from Guadalajara International Airport is the resident's responsibility; airport taxi costs $450-500 pesos each way. The application fee is $36.00. Applications are accepted through January 18, 2014, and applicants will be notified no later than February 2, 2014. International eligibility. 360 Xochi Quetzal encourages applications from artists of all backgrounds and does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, national origin, religion, creed, sex, sexual orientation, HIV status, marital status, disability, or veteran status.
