35th September Competition

The 35th September Competition is open to all artists over the age of 18 working in any medium. All work must be original and completed in the last two years (2020 or later). Artists may submit two full view works of art with a non-refundable entry fee of $40. Additional works may be submitted for $20 per entry. Entries will be blind juried by digital images. Digital images must be smaller than 5MB and saved as JPG at the highest resolution possible. Video files must not exceed 100 MB and cannot exceed 30 minutes in length. No work should exceed seven feet (84 inches) in any direction or 200 lbs in weight. All works must be adhered to a backing for exhibition; nothing will be painted or adhered directly to museum walls. Entry must include digital images, entry fee, and a maximum 100-word artist statement.

Selected works must arrive pre-paid by June 17, 2022, along with a pre-paid return address label. The exhibition opens July 8, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. with awards presentation and juror gallery talk. Awards include First Place: $800, Second Place: $500, Third Place: $300, and three Honorable Mention awards of $100 each. A Purchase Award will be selected by museum staff and collections committee at the close of the exhibition. The juror is Elizabeth Chubbuck Weinstein, an independent art curator and consultant with extensive experience in contemporary art curation. The exhibition runs through October 8, 2022. A 30% commission will be charged on all sales. Works will be insured for the duration of the show while on Alexandria Museum of Art premises.
