About This Call
The Lincoln Center's New Legacies: Contemporary Art Quilts exhibition features the current work of national and international contemporary quilt artists. The exhibition runs July 5 – September 3, 2016, with an Opening Reception on Friday, July 8, 5-7 p.m. and Awards Presentation at 6 p.m. Art quilts accepted for exhibition will exemplify innovation in quilting and surface design techniques as well as excellence in artistic composition and craftsmanship. The goal is to recognize the world's finest contemporary quilt artists and advance the art form.
Entry fee is $35 for up to three entries (maximum of three entries allowed). Entries must be of the artist's original design, completed after August 30, 2014. No student work or work created as a result of a class or workshop will be accepted. The quilt must be predominately fabric or fabric-like material and composed of at least three layers held together by stitching. 2-D quilts must have a three-inch (8 cm) or greater finished double casing (sleeve) sewn in the top edge. 3-D quilts must be identified as such and include detailed hanging or installation instructions. Entries must include 1-6 images and a short description of techniques and materials used, plus an artist statement for the exhibition catalog.
Jurors are Jo Fitsell, Louisa Smith, Vicki Carlson, and Ellen Martin. Awards include: $1,000 Best of Show Award (presented by Vicki Anderson of Meander Publishing and Machine Quilting Unlimited), $500 Prize for Creative Artistry, and $500 Prize for Creative Innovation. Awards will be announced during the Opening Reception. Accepted works must be available for the full installation and exhibition period (June 27 – September 8, 2016). Lincoln Center retains a 30% commission on all works sold. Artists are responsible for all shipping and insurance costs. Lincoln Center will not insure work for more than 70% of its stated retail value. Notification of acceptance will be sent via email by May 6, 2016. Shipments must be received June 20-24, 2016, or hand-delivered June 27, 2016 between 1:00-5:00 p.m. Quilts will be shipped back September 8, 2016, or available for pick-up September 4, 2016 between 1:30-5:00 p.m.
