About This Call
The Alexandria Museum of Art invites artists to submit work for the 32nd September Competition, a juried exhibition running July 5 – October 19, 2019. All artists over the age of 18 working in any medium are eligible. Work must be original and completed in the last two years (2017 or later). The museum encourages submissions in video and experimental media.
Entry fee is $40 for two works; additional entries are $20 each. Submissions must include digital images (JPG format, smaller than 5MB at highest resolution; video files maximum 100MB), entry fee, and a maximum 100-word artist statement. Video entries must not exceed 30 minutes. Work must not exceed seven feet in any direction or 200 lbs in weight. Entries will be blind juried by digital images. The deadline for entry is April 10, 2019. Selected works must arrive pre-paid by June 21, 2019, with a pre-paid return address label.
Awards will be announced at the exhibition opening reception on July 12, 2019: First Place $800, Second Place $500, Third Place $300, and three Honorable Mention awards of $100 each. A Best Packed Artwork award of $100 and a Purchase Award selected by museum staff will also be given. The juror is Dr. Marilyn Laufer, Director Emerita of the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art at Auburn University. A 30% commission will be charged on all sales. Works will be insured during the exhibition while on museum premises.
