About This Call
The Alexandria Museum of Art invites artists to submit work for the 31st September Competition, a juried exhibition running July 6 – October 20, 2018. All artists over the age of 18 working in any medium are eligible. Work must be original and completed in the last two years (2016 or later). The museum encourages submissions in video and experimental media.
Each artist may submit two full view works for a $40 entry fee. Additional works may be submitted for $20 per entry. Entries are blind juried by digital images. Digital images must be smaller than 5MB and saved as JPG at the highest resolution possible. Video files must not exceed 100MB and cannot be longer than 30 minutes. Work cannot exceed seven feet in any direction or weigh more than 200 lbs. All work must be adhered to a backing; nothing will be painted or adhered directly to museum walls. Entries must include digital images, entry fee, and a maximum 100-word artist statement. Selected works must arrive pre-paid by June 22, 2018, with a pre-paid return address label.
Awards will be presented at the exhibition opening on July 6: First Place $800, Second Place $500, Third Place $300, and three Honorable Mentions of $100 each. A Purchase Award will be selected by museum staff at the close of the exhibition. The juror is William U. Eiland, director of the Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia. A 30% commission is charged on all sales. The museum will take reasonable precautions but assumes no responsibility for loss or damage during transit. Works will be insured while on museum premises.
