About This Call

The League for Innovation Student Art Competition, now in its 31st year, enables community college students to compete with their peers across North America and showcases a selection of the best work being created by today's community college students. The host for this year's competition is Foothill-DeAnza Community College District in Los Altos Hills, California.

Students currently enrolled in art classes at a League Board member college are eligible to enter. Each member college will nominate five artworks by five artists for the National Competition. All entries must be received by Friday, April 14, 2017. Artworks are selected by the students' home colleges. All types of art are eligible, including three-dimensional work. Selected artists may submit one image for flat work or up to two images for three-dimensional work. Digital files should be no more than 2400 pixels on the longest side in JPEG format at maximum quality. Judging will be completed from digital images of the artwork. Students must submit a short written statement (75 words or less) regarding the work, which may address the specific work submitted or be a general artist statement. All statements will be published in the exhibition catalog.

Awards include: Best of Show ($800), Second Place ($350), Third Place ($200), and three Juror's Choice Awards ($100 each). Certificates of Merit will recognize all students whose works are submitted to the national competition, and their artwork will be included in the competition catalog. Contact: Kate Jordahl, MFA, Professor of Photography, Foothill College, 12345 El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills, CA 94022, 650-949-7318, [email protected].
