About This Call

The 25th Annual Colored Pencil Society of America International Exhibition is open to living artists 18 years or older, regardless of geographic location. There is no preferential treatment for CPSA members versus non-members. The exhibition will be held at the Mansion at Strathmore in North Bethesda, MD.

Entry fee is $25 for CPSA members and $35 for non-members, covering one or two entries. Artwork must be 100% colored pencil on a manufacturer-prepared surface (scratchboard not allowed). Acceptable additions include solvents and graphite pencil used under/between/over colored pencil layers. Artwork must be two-dimensional, completed after March 31, 2014, and not previously hung in any CPSA International Exhibition. No work copied from copyrighted materials, published materials, or someone else's photograph. No collaborations or reproductions (giclée, print, etc.) are allowed. Frames must be ready to hang with 3/4" D-rings on wood frames or standard fittings on metal frames. If glazed, use plexiglas only—no glass or clip-on frames. Outside frame dimensions may not exceed 32x40 inches. Mats must be white, off-white, tan, gray, or black. Frames should be simple in design.

Accepted artists must commit to shipping their artwork for the full duration of the event. Shipping will be handled through Masterpiece International with a negotiated cartage fee of $81 per artist, paid directly to CPSA. All artwork must be shipped via UPS in sturdy reusable cartons with no loose packing materials. The gallery will insure artwork during the exhibition, but artists should insure their own work. The gallery takes a 40% commission on sales. Numerous monetary awards and the CIPPY Best of Show award are presented annually; last year cash awards totaled $16,050. Award winners will be notified by telephone between June 23 and June 25, 2017. CPSA members may earn signature status by having their art appear in three CPSA International Exhibitions within ten years.
