24th San Angelo National Ceramic Competition

The 24th San Angelo National Ceramic Competition is sponsored by the San Angelo Museum Endowment for Ceramic Events and Darlene and John Williams. Organized by and held at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts in cooperation with Angelo State University, the exhibition highlights a broad range of attitudes in the clay medium from functional to sculptural work. The Museum devotes its entire space to the show. In the last competition, 111 works were displayed.

The competition is open to all artists 18 or older who are residents of the United States, Canada, or Mexico. All work must have been completed within the last two years, and works previously accepted into this competition are ineligible. Both functional and sculptural work are welcome, and as long as works contain ceramic or clay, mixed-media, multi-media, video, installations, and collaborations are welcome. There is no size limit. Entry fee is $20. Submit up to 3 entries with a maximum of 2 digital images per artwork in high resolution (at least 300 dpi) in jpeg format. One video file per artwork can also be submitted in lieu of a second photo. Six cash prizes will be awarded, totaling $6,000. Juror: James Watkins, Paul Whitfield Horn Professor Emeritus, Texas Tech University. Invited Artist: Andrea Gill, Alfred, NY.

Accepted work must arrive by March 11, 2022. A panel discussion concerning contemporary ceramics will be held at Angelo State University on April 8th at 1:30 p.m., featuring the Museum Director, Invited Artist, and Juror. Andrea Gill will lead a workshop at The Old Chicken Farm Art Center on Saturday, April 9th. The exhibition opens April 8, 2022, and closes June 26, 2022. All work will be insured while at the Museum. Sales will be encouraged with a 20% commission. A complimentary catalog including a photograph of each exhibited work will be sent to all accepted artists after the close of the show.
