About This Call
The intersection of 23rd Avenue and 10th Street is a major hub for travel through the City. A work of art in the triangle median will have very high visibility to the public. Artists are encouraged to research the history of Greeley, especially the importance of water to the once arid desert. The finished triangle median will be an integration of hardscape improvements, water efficient landscaping and monumental artwork. Traffic site lines must be considered for all additions to the triangle median.
One artist will be selected to work as a Design Consultant by attending design team meetings and fully developing a detailed final design for artwork. The selected Design Consultant will invoice the City per an agreed reasonable hourly fee for design consultant services not to exceed $3,500. The Design Consultant will work with a design team including architects, engineers, and project managers as well as the Greeley Art Commission to designate opportunities and develop a design for artwork valued at not more than $90,000. This approach requires good collaborative skills, creativity, and flexibility as well as an open mind.
All mediums proposed for the design of artwork will be considered that are resistant to Greeley's extreme weather changes and risks of the close proximity of traffic including hazards of street cleaning, repairs, snow removal, etc. Anything from stonework to actual water may be accepted; fragile mediums such as wood and glass are not suggested. Final design work must be original and must include all details necessary for the fabrication and installation of actual artwork. A minimum of four progress reports will be required showing the evolution of the design. Final approval of the design work by the Greeley Art Commission will be based on aesthetic merit, originality and creativity or innovation, appropriateness to the high visibility intersection as well as structural soundness and vandal resistance. The final design submitted by the Design Consultant may be incorporated into a future re-development project of the site with a targeted completion date of June 2015. The Design Consultant may be commissioned, at the City's discretion, to create artwork from the final design for the site with or without any further bidding process.
