About This Call
The 22nd Annual Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA) International Exhibition is open to living artists 18 years or older, regardless of geographic location. Artists may submit a digital image of one or two different works, but only one piece per artist may appear in the exhibition. Entry fee is $25 for CPSA members and $35 for non-members. The deadline for entries is 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time, March 31, 2014.
Media must be 100% colored pencil. Acceptable additions include solvents (e.g., turpentine) and graphite pencil used under/between/over layers. Artwork must be two-dimensional on a single surface with no collage or montage. Artwork must have been completed after March 31, 2011 and not previously hung in any CPSA exhibition. Concept, design and execution must be solely that of the artist with no work copied from copyrighted or published materials, collaborations, digital reproductions, prints, or photographs. Framed size cannot exceed 32x40 inches. Mats must be white, off-white, tan, gray or black; frames should be simple in design. Artwork must be ready to hang by wire with plexiglas only—no glass or clip-on frames.
Selection involves two steps: jurors select artwork based on artistic merit, and artists are notified of acceptance via cpsa.org and postcard. Accepted artists are responsible for all shipping expenses to and from the exhibition, plus a $40 cartage fee. Artwork must be shipped in sturdy reusable cartons. A final review verifies that work meets specifications and is of the same quality as the digital image. Numerous monetary awards and the CIPPY Best of Show award are presented each year; last year cash awards totaled over $16,000. CPSA members may earn signature status by having their art appear in three CPSA International Exhibitions within ten years. Artwork may be priced for sale or not for sale, with a 30% commission retained by the Ormond Memorial Art Museum for any sales during the exhibition.
