About This Call
Portland Open Studios is a juried studio tour of 100+ artists in the Portland metro area, providing a unique opportunity for artists to open their studios to the public. Now in its 21st year, Portland Open Studios is an important and anticipated annual arts event that attracts visitors from the community and beyond. The tour is a free event for the public.
Artists must open their studios and demonstrate their working methods during all hours of both weekends (October 12-13 and 19-20, 2019, 10am-5pm). Studios must show an educational element, such as documentation of methods or demonstrations of technical and creative processes. Eligibility is open to residents of Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington Counties and all visual media except film. A studio is any workspace the artist is permitted to open to the public where they can demonstrate their working methods, including living rooms and garages.
The entry fee is $30. Upon acceptance, a participation fee of $250 is collected, which funds advertising, the tour guide, and operating costs. Four jurors from Portland's arts community score submitted images; the combined scores determine which artists are invited. No more than 65% of total participants may be previous participants. Applicants must submit 3 JPEG images at 72 ppi/dpi resolution, maximum 5 MB each. Selected artists receive listing in promotional materials, tour guides, and publicity; training at two artist meetings; free tour guide materials; and the option to participate in related promotional events. The Kimberly Gales Emerging Artist Scholarship is available to artists ages 20-30, offering a waived participation fee and $100 stipend.
