About This Call
The Arts Council Wichita Falls opens the 20th annual Sculpture Garden exhibit at the Kemp Center for the Arts, located at 1300 Lamar Street, Wichita Falls, Texas 76301. The exhibit runs for 12 months beginning May 13, 2024. All forms of outdoor sculpture will be considered, provided it meets the prospectus requirements. The juror for this event is noted Texas sculptor Sharon Kopriva. Ten pieces will be accepted for the exhibition.
Artists may submit up to three pieces for consideration. Sculpture should be garden-sized or larger (at least 3 feet in any one dimension is recommended). Acceptable media includes metal, stone, ceramic, or any other durable material that will withstand the elements and outdoor display. Pieces must have the capacity to be attached to ¼" steel plate for installation or safely rest on bare ground. Artwork will be placed on a steel plate on soft ground with no concrete installation areas available. The exhibit space surrounds a public building with areas in open sunlight and shaded by large trees, with an irrigation system in place. Artists are responsible for delivery and pick-up of all artwork at their own expense. Artwork does not need to be for sale to be exhibited; if listed for sale, the Arts Council will receive a 30% commission.
Eligibility is open to national artists. The entry fee is $25. Artists selected will receive an installation stipend totaling $1,500 ($750 on completed installation and $750 on completed deinstallation). Three cash awards will be given: 1st place ($2,500), 2nd place ($1,500), and 3rd place ($500), announced at the opening reception on May 11, 2024. Artists are expected to attend the opening reception; one hotel room for up to two nights will be provided. Artists will be notified of their pick-up date and time no less than 30 days prior to removal in 2025.
