About This Call
Portland Open Studios is a juried studio tour of approximately 100 artists in the Portland metro area. Now in its 20th year, the tour is an important annual arts event that attracts visitors from the community and beyond. The tour is free for attendees; a printed Tour Guide and Mobile app are available for purchase, and a free Mobile app is also available.
Artists must open their studios and demonstrate their working methods during all hours of both tour weekends (October 13-14 and 20-21, 2018, with studios open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.). An educational element is required, such as documentation of methods or demonstrations of technical and creative processes. Eligibility is open to residents of Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington Counties and all visual media except film. A studio is defined as any workspace the artist is permitted to open to the public where they can demonstrate their working methods, including living rooms and garages.
Applications require 3 artwork images (JPEG format, minimum 1920 pixels on longest side, 72 ppi, 5 MB maximum) and optionally 1 "at work" image. The entry fee is $30. Upon acceptance, a $250 participation fee is collected. Three jurors from Portland's arts community score submissions; no more than 65% of participants may be previous participants. Selection notification occurs April 1, 2018. Benefits include publication in a full-color Tour Guide and Mobile apps, a dedicated website page, directional signage, minimum two free workshops, and blog announcements from April 2018 through March 2019. The Kimberly Gales Emerging Artist Scholarship is available to artists ages 20-30, offering a waived participation fee and $100 stipend.
