2027 Bear Gallery Exhibition

Artists residing in Alaska are invited to submit digital images and/or videos of artwork for possible solo, group, or curated exhibitions in the Bear Gallery for the year 2027. The gallery typically hosts two exhibitions per month from February through November, featuring work by Alaskan artists and artist groups working in a variety of media. Applications are selected on the merit of work samples and artist statement, with applicants notified of their status in early 2026.

Exhibition types include solo exhibitions (one artist), group exhibitions (separate works of two or more artists with no designated curator), and curated exhibitions (curator selects theme, conceptual focus, and included artwork). Submitted applications are reviewed by a panel of professional Alaskan artists without access to applicant names or identifying information. Work samples should be cohesive and illustrate the artist's ability to create a strong body of work. If selected, artwork must have been completed within the last three years.

Eligibility is open to Alaska residents ages 18 or older (residing in Alaska at least six months per year). Entry fee is $35.00 for non-members ($30.00 for Fairbanks Arts Association members at Artist level or higher). Applicants must submit 7-10 work samples (images and/or up to 5 videos completed within the last five years), an artist statement, and a resume (for solo and curated exhibitions only, maximum two pages as PDF). Signatures and names visible in work samples should be blurred, removed, or covered. An individual artist or group may have an exhibition in the Bear Gallery once every four years. Artworks must not shed, deteriorate, produce odors, incorporate living materials, or include AI-generated imagery. Framed or encased artwork larger than 18" x 24" must use plexiglass instead of glass. Prohibited hanging hardware includes sawtooth hangers, triangle hangers, command strips, string, and tape.
