About This Call
Zaratan, a not-for-profit contemporary art space founded by artists in Lisbon in 2014, offers an international artist residency program. The residency is designed to intensify and exchange knowledge with artists through creative and productive practices, mixing experienced and emerging artists and giving them the possibility to develop work in an experimental context through exchange and collaboration within the local network.
Artists-in-residence are given the opportunity to develop a project over a fixed period and reflect and consolidate their artistic practice in the context of Lisbon. Zaratan provides private accommodation, 24/7 private working studio, technical assistance, promotion and communication support, and open public presentation of the residency process. Although labs and technique-specific facilities are not available, logistical support for producing work and events is provided within the network of partners and collaborators. All artists are encouraged to share the outcome of their residency through talks, performance, open studios, or other formats of public presentations. Residency dates are between May 2026 and December 2026.
Emerging and professional artists, performers, musicians, curators, writers, and other cultural agents are eligible to apply. The program is designed for international artists or national artists residing abroad. Once a year, Zaratan offers a 4-week residency grant covering studio and accommodation fees for one artist selected through the application process. There is no application fee. To apply, email [email protected] with a single PDF file (not exceeding 24mb) containing: bio/CV, portfolio or website, description of the work/project intended during the residency, and the period of intended stay. Applications are evaluated by a selection committee composed of artists, curators, community members, and space board members. Applicants will be notified via email after selections are made.
