About This Call

The Governor's Capitol Art Exhibition (GCAE) is a biennial juried exhibition celebrating the work of Wyoming artists. Established in 2000, it is organized by the Wyoming State Museum and the Wyoming Arts Council. This year, GCAE will be featured as part of Wyoming's tribute to America's 250th anniversary. Artists are encouraged to submit entries that celebrate Wyoming's landscapes, communities, and people.

This exhibition is the primary avenue for the state museum to acquire contemporary Wyoming art for its Capitol and permanent collections. Art for the Capitol collection is selected by the State's five elected officials and representatives from other state agencies, while museum curators select purchase awards for the Museum's permanent collection. All other artwork is available for sale to the general public. The exhibit is open to artists currently working and living in Wyoming. There is no entry fee. The juried exhibition will be on display from February 9 through August 8, 2026 at the Wyoming State Capitol in Cheyenne. This year's juror is Kate Hlavin from Denver, Colorado.

Artists may submit up to three original works completed within the last three years. Submit 1-6 images per work (up to 6 total images). Works must be two- or three-dimensional and ready for display. 2D works must be ready to hang on a picture rail system with D-rings installed and may not exceed 120" in length or 54" in height. 3D work must be stable and ready for display; pedestal-dependent work may not exceed 30" in any dimension, and floor-dependent work may not exceed 30" in width or length or 96" in height. Works may not exceed 50 lbs. Wet paintings, works needing special hooks, and any work considered unsafe will not be accepted. Artists must be Wyoming residents with a permanent address in the state. Following juried review, all artists will be notified of their status by November 19, 2025. The Wyoming State Museum will collect a 40% commission from all work sold during the exhibition. Artists pay for shipping to and from the museum. Contact Nathan Doerr, Capitol Curator, at [email protected] or (307) 823-2935 with questions.
