About This Call
Weir Farm's Artist-in-Residence (AIR) Program is an outstanding National Park Service residency program that reflects the values and character of Weir Farm National Historical Park by continuing the creative conversations started by the Weir Family through the work of contemporary artists. The program fosters contemporary artistic expression on site and prioritizes experimental and thought-provoking approaches to examining and interpreting our world through contemporary visual art practice. Visual artists apply for residencies in all media and artistic points of view from traditional to experimental, with artists chosen through an annual competitive jury process.
The program hosts established or emerging visual artists who spend one month (April-October 2026) living and working at the Park. Housing and studio space are provided, with artists receiving a $400 stipend ($200 at the beginning and $200 after completion of all requirements). The fully furnished residence sits in the middle of the 68-acre park and is one of the historic structures, while the AIR Studio is a compatible new construction that received a Certificate of Honor Award from the National Park Service. Artists must supply their own food, personal items, and art supplies.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents aged 25+ at submission, including graduate students, emerging artists, and professional artists. Artists are required to attend a Welcome event, provide one public Open Studio program during their residency, send 3-5 images mid-residency for social media, and complete a post-residency feedback questionnaire. Projects involving outdoor installations, toxic chemicals, collection of natural materials, open flame, or any activities that may impact the historic landscape are prohibited. Applications are accepted in painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, fiber art, and mixed media. All applicants will be notified of decisions by mid-March 2026.
