About This Call

The Postmark Artist in Residence (P.A.I.R.) is a two-month residency program during July and August 2026 for artists to pursue their work and engage with the arts community at the Postmark Center for the Arts in Auburn, Washington.

The residency provides a $3,500 stipend (usable for art supplies, transportation, meals, etc.), a studio space of approximately 162 square feet within the historic Postmark property, and access to art studios equipped with tools and equipment for printmaking, small-scale metal work, and glass kiln fusing/casting. Selected artists will have opportunities to tour the White River Valley Museum, Mary Olson Farm, and local public art sites. The residency culminates in an exhibition at Postmark's Vault Gallery from January 15, 2027 to April 9, 2027, including a reception and artist talk.

Selected artists must commit to a minimum of ten hours per week creating work on-site during Postmark open hours (Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and select Saturdays). Additional expectations include hosting two free public open studio afternoons, leading one free artist-led workshop demonstrating techniques or inspiration, and participating in a final artist talk, reception, and exhibition. Artists must provide their own art supplies, equipment, and transportation. Housing is not provided. Any individual artist in Washington State working in two or three-dimensional media (including drawing, painting, photography, textiles, sculpture, installation, woodworking, printmaking, etc.) is encouraged to apply. BIPOC artists are encouraged to apply, and past participants of the Mary Olson Farm A.I.R. are welcome to apply.
