2026 Portfolio Review

The American Society of Marine Artists is accepting applications for Signature Membership and Fellowship through their 2026 Portfolio Review. The entry deadline is April 1, 2026, with notifications to be emailed and posted in ShowSubmit accounts by May 1, 2026.

Signature Membership applicants must submit 12 images representing their current body of work and pay an $85 application fee. Applicants do not need to be active ASMA members, though regular members must be current on 2026 dues. Fellowship applicants must submit 20 images and pay a $130 application fee; applicants must already be Signature Members for at least one year with current 2026 dues. Both applications require brief biographical information including education, awards, gallery representation, and art group affiliations.

Accepted fine art mediums include oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, colored pencil, pen and ink, graphite, sculpture, and scrimshaw. Photography, models, glass, fiber, ceramics, cold cast bronze, digital art, and miscellaneous art categories are not accepted. All sculptors must submit 2 views for each artwork. Artwork must have been created within the past 10 years. Images must be submitted as high-quality JPEG files at least 1500 pixels on the longest edge, with a maximum file size of 30 MB, cropped to show only the artwork without matting, frames, or background distractions.

Newly elected Signature Members will have the right to sign their works with the letters ASMA and may have a Signature Gallery page on the ASMA website ($15 per year for three images) and a link to their personal website ($10 per year). Non-members accepted for Signature Membership will be required to pay $100 annual dues; regular members will be charged an additional $35 to upgrade. Signature Members are required to submit at least one work for jury consideration to every ASMA National Exhibition (approximately every four years) or lose membership status.

Fellows must actively engage in Fellowship activities including annual jury sessions (online or in-person), may be asked to submit articles for ASMA News and Journal, and must serve a three-year term on the Fellows Management Committee. Fellow dues are $125 annually. Fellows are required to exhibit one painting or sculpture in National Exhibitions (mounted roughly every four years).
