About This Call

The Pacific States Biennial North American is a printmaking exhibition open to all artists 18 years or older presently residing anywhere on the North American continent, its islands, and outlying US territories. Entries from Mexico and Canada are welcome. The exhibition is hosted in conjunction with the UH Hilo Mookini Library.

Eligible work includes original work in all printmaking media and digital/traditional hybrid prints completed within the last 2 years. Photography and digital reproductions of original works are not accepted. Paper size dimensions must not exceed 30" x 40". Submissions require 2-5 JPEG images. Entry fee is $35.00 plus a $5.00 media fee. The entry deadline is August 16, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. HST. Accepted artists will be notified by August 31, 2026, with accepted work due by September 18, 2026. The exhibition opens November 2, 2026 and closes January 14, 2027.

The juror is Althea Murphy-Price, a Professor of Art at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. First place award is an artist residency at the University of Hawaii at Hilo covering travel, lodging, per diem, and honorarium. Additional purchase awards will be selected from the exhibition. UH Hilo will mat and frame selected works. All participating artists receive one color exhibition catalog at no cost. Sales include a 20% commission. The PDF catalog will be viewable online at hilo.hawaii.edu/depts/art/gallery. Artists are responsible for return shipping of their work.
