2026-27 Dexter Art Gardens Temporary Sculpture Display

About This Call
The Dexter Art Gardens is an annual outdoor artwork exhibition sponsored by the Dexter Arts, Culture & Heritage Committee and the City of Dexter. Five temporary outdoor artworks will be juried and placed on display with the City's permanent collection for one year, from June 2026 to May 2027. Selected pieces will be installed on concrete pads in highly trafficked locations in historic Dexter, Michigan.
Artwork must be three-dimensional and suitable in scale and materials for public outdoor display. Artwork must be able to endure rain, snow, and precipitation throughout the year. Artists may submit up to three original artworks. Submissions must include 2-5 images. The call is open to all artists 18 years of age and older who are capable of installing the art on-site.
Each selected artist will receive a $1,000 stipend paid after successful installation. Additional benefits include exhibition at high visibility sites in Dexter, a plaque with the artist's name and artwork title posted near the work, a year-long promotional campaign, publication in print and online brochures distributed throughout the year and at the Dexter Summer Festival and Paint Dexter Plein Air Festival, and promotion on the City of Dexter website and Facebook page. Application deadline: February 25, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Artist notification of selection will occur the week of March 23, 2026. Installation is scheduled for June 1-15, 2026, with artwork removal appointments available May 15-31, 2027.
