About This Call
The City of Alamosa is accepting entries for the 10th annual Alamosa Creates Art on Loan Program, a public art program open to all professional and amateur artists. Artists may submit 1 artwork (with 3-5 images of that work) per application, with up to 2 applications per artist allowed.
Submissions must be more than two feet in height and valued at no more than $50,000. Judging will take place in March 2026, with 15 pieces selected based on originality and suitability for outdoor display. Selected artwork will remain on display for one year. Artists receive a $1,000 honorarium for selected artwork delivered by the installation deadline of September 11, 2026. Throughout the display period, community members will vote for a "People's Choice" award, with a $1,000 prize awarded to the selected artist.
Pedestal-mounted pieces must not exceed 23" circumference and must have a separate metal base for welding. Ground-mounted pieces must have brackets extending beyond the piece with 1/2" pre-cut holes for drilling. Artwork must require little to no maintenance or be fully assembled prior to arrival. The City of Alamosa will be responsible for installation and will insure the artwork against vandalism, theft, and motor vehicle damage during the display period, but will not be liable for degradation from normal wear and tear or weathering. If artwork is sold during display, the City will retain 20% of the sale price as commission. Installation is part of the Alamosa Creates Arts Festival on September 11-12, 2026, featuring an artist reception on Friday evening and events with the Alamosa Farmers' Market on Saturday. Selected artists receive two nights lodging in a local hotel. Failure to install by the deadline results in forfeiture of the honorarium.
