About This Call
The Wyoming State Parks & Cultural Resources Artist in Residence Program joins visual artists with Wyoming State Parks. This is a 10-day road trip residency in August/September 2025 where artists will visit a minimum of 4 state parks. Camping is required; cabins, yurts, and dorm housing may be available. This is a joint program through Wyoming State Parks and the Wyoming Arts Council.
Artists must be year-round Wyoming residents at least 18 years old with a valid driver's license, personal vehicle, and auto insurance with minimum limits of $500,000. Requirements include creating daily blog posts with photos for the Wyoming State Parks website, daily social media posts (Facebook, Instagram) from within state parks following brand standards, and producing a community service component either during or within two months of the residency. At least 75% of work must be created within Wyoming State Parks. Artists must create a minimum of 10 pieces for the Artist in Residence Show and Sale at the Wyoming State Museum (November 2025 - January 2026). Works are limited to 4 pieces no longer than 60 inches in their longest dimension, with all other works below 20 inches. A 25% commission will be collected for Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Resources. Artists must respect public lands by following use regulations and obtaining necessary permits. A contract with the state of Wyoming is required.
The stipend is $3,500, with half payable prior to the trip and half upon completion. Camping and day use fees are waived for the 10 days in state parks. Applicants must submit a resume, artist's statement, statement of purpose, three choices of beginning/ending dates, and up to six digital images. Notifications will be made by mid-May. The selected artist will donate a mutually agreed upon piece of original work within one year of completion. The artist retains copyright but grants the State of Wyoming a non-exclusive, limited, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, free license to use images for promotional and non-sales purposes. Application deadline: March 12, 2025, 11:59 P.M. MT.
