About This Call
Weir Farm National Historical Park's Artist-in-Residence (AIR) Program is a National Park Service residency that fosters contemporary artistic expression on site, prioritizing experimental and thought-provoking approaches to examining and interpreting the world through contemporary visual art practice. The program hosts 6 established or emerging visual artists per year for one-month residencies (May-October). Housing and studio space are provided. Artists will receive a stipend of $400, with $200 provided at the beginning of the residency and $200 provided after all residency requirements are completed, including filling out a feedback questionnaire.
Visual artists in all media and diverse artistic points of view from traditional to experimental may apply. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, age 25 or older at submission, and include graduate students, emerging artists, and professional artists. A three-member jury of experts from the professional art world will review applications based on quality of work, realistic project proposals, diversity of artistic medium and backgrounds, thoughtful engagement with Weir Farm's significance, and fostering of experimentation and innovation. All applicants will be notified of decisions by mid-March 2025.
Artists must commit to the full 4-week residency and are required to attend a Welcome event and provide one public Open Studio program during their residency. Artists must supply their own food, personal items, and art supplies. Projects involving outdoor installations, toxic chemicals, hazardous materials, collection of natural materials from Federal land, selling artwork on Federal land, open flame, fire, or burning will not be considered. There is no kiln on the property. The entry fee is $35.00, and applications require 5-10 images of recent work (within the past two years).
