About This Call
This exhibition is open to members of the Virginia Watercolor Society only. The entry fee is $40.00 for a maximum of three digital images. The juror, Iain Stewart, will select no more than one painting per artist from the digital submissions. Selected paintings must then be submitted for the exhibition, with final selections made from the actual submitted paintings. Artists will be notified of the juror's decision by email by June 27, 2025. The exhibition runs from September 26, 2025 to November 4, 2025 at the Art Museum at the Covington Center.
Eligible work includes paintings in watercolor, acrylic, casein, gouache, egg tempera, or water-soluble ink on paper or Yupo only. Canvas, digital, computer-generated, water-soluble oil, and Giclée art are not accepted. No images generated with or assisted by artificial intelligence are permitted. Collage elements are accepted if adhered paper pieces are painted in water media by the artist. All entries must have been completed on or after January 1, 2022 and may not have been painted under supervision. Works may not infringe upon another's copyright, and if photo references are used, they must be the artist's own photographs. Paintings accepted for previous VWS juried exhibitions are ineligible.
All accepted paintings must be ready for hanging with appropriate hardware and hanging wire (no sawtooth hangers), framed under plexiglass or acrylic glazing (no glass), and matted using only white or off-white matting on all four sides. Minimum frame size in any direction is 16 inches; maximum is 44 inches, including diptychs and triptychs which must be in a single frame. All submissions must include prices or be marked "Not For Sale." Awards will be given at the juror's discretion, with a top award of $1,500 provided by the Virginia Watercolor Society. Artwork will be covered by insurance while on exhibit for current market or appraised value minus any commissions.
