About This Call
The Transparent Watercolor Society of America invites entries for its 49th Annual Exhibition, held at the Kenosha Public Museum from May 3 to August 3, 2025. Artists must be residents of North America, 18 years of age or older, and current TWSA members in good standing with paid 2025 dues. Work must be original transparent watercolor created after January 1, 2023, with no supervised instruction, and may not have been previously exhibited in a TWSA exhibition.
Entries must be transparent watercolor applied on a single piece of rag or wood pulp paper free of pigment and embedded materials. Opaque white paint, gesso, gouache, acrylics, inks, metallic or iridescent paints, collage, impasto, embossing, varnish, wax, canvas, and digital enhancements are not permitted. Graphite pencil may be used only for planning marks. Paintings must be framed simply in neutral frames with white or off-white mats (colored 1/8 inch liners acceptable). Maximum frame size is 50 inches on any side; minimum image size (mat opening) is 8 x 10 inches.
Entry deadline is January 31, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Entry fee is $65 (includes membership for new/renewing members) or $25 for prepaid members. Optional donations to the Awards Fund are $100 or $50. Submit 1-2 JPEG images at 1,200 pixels or greater on the longest side via CaFE. Accepted artists will be notified in early March. Paintings must be shipped to Kenosha Public Museum between April 12-19. The exhibition features workshops and demonstrations by jurors Brienne M. Brown and Matthew Bird, TWSA, scheduled for June 3-12. A reception celebrating awards will be held June 7 at 5:00 p.m. Paintings will be shipped back the week of August 4. The Kenosha Public Museum charges a 30% commission on sold paintings.
