About This Call

The College of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts at Texas A&M University invites applications for its New Work Development Artist Residency program. The college is committed to incubating new works of art in an environment of creative reciprocity between scholars and artists that crosses disciplinary lines. The college comprises three interdisciplinary units: Dance Science, Visualization, and Performance Studies, with additional programs in Music Performance, Devised Theatre, Music Technology, Graphic Design, Choreography, and Virtual Production. The New Work Development Artist Residency is designed to build on these areas of strength and the college's emerging research areas.

Artists in residence will be expected to integrate their work into the life of the college, providing opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to participate in their creative process and engaging with faculty and the wider campus community throughout the residency period. The program is designed to be mutually beneficial to the artist in residence and students, providing the latter a high-impact educational opportunity.

Selected artists will receive a $10,000 stipend for living expenses and project materials, on-campus lodging (two bedroom/one bath apartment), shared office space and access to college facilities including rehearsal and performance spaces, recording studios, visual art studios and technology resources, undergraduate and/or graduate student assistance, professional documentation of public presentations, and visa support for international artists. The Fall 2025 residency runs August 4–October 4, 2025. Applications are due February 3, 2025, with notification on February 14, 2025, and final acceptance due March 1, 2025.

Applications must include a Letter of Intent (maximum 1,000 words) with brief artist statement, description of work and discipline, outline of intended residency work, plans for engaging with students and faculty, and explanation of the college's importance to your work. Also required: current CV, draft budget, draft timeline, portfolio of past work, and artist website URL. Submit as a single PDF to [email protected]. Evaluation criteria include quality of past creative research, alignment with the college's interdisciplinary strengths, potential to provide high-impact educational experiences to students, and potential to produce outstanding new creative work.
