About This Call
This is the 18th New River Art Juried Biennial Exhibition, sponsored by the Blacksburg Regional Art Association (BRAA) and hosted by the Moss Arts Center. The exhibition traditionally rotates every two years between the Floyd Center for the Arts, the Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley in Pulaski, and BRAA. The Moss Arts Center, located at the crossroads of Virginia Tech and downtown Blacksburg, provides a community center where the arts are a catalyst for engagement, inspiration, and discovery.
The juror is Michael Rooks, Wieland Family Senior Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, GA. More than $3,000 will be awarded in various categories. All fine art mediums created between 2022-2024 are accepted in the following categories: Oil, Acrylic/Gouache, Watercolor, Mixed Media, Drawing/Pastel/Printmaking, Photography, Fiber, and Sculpture/3D. Art exhibited in previous New River Biennials is not eligible. Performance and video/sound works are not eligible.
Eligibility is open to artists 18 years of age or older currently living within a 170-mile radius of the Moss Arts Center (190 Alumni Mall, Blacksburg, VA 24061). The entry fee is $40 for up to 3 entries, with 1 image per entry. Submit 1-3 JPG/JPEG images at 1920 pixels or greater on the longest side, under 5MB, at 72-300 PPI resolution. 2-D work must be ready for installation and not exceed 72 inches in any dimension (including frame) or 50 lbs. in weight. 3-D work must be self-standing, stable, and not exceed 72 inches in any direction (including base) or 50 lbs. Artists are responsible for delivery, shipping, and return shipping. All artworks must include information for labels: artist name, location, year, medium, and dimensions. The exhibition runs June 5 - August 23, 2025.
