About This Call
The 2025 Napa Lighted Art Festival invites artists and designer collaboratives from all disciplines to submit proposals for light-based installations. Approximately 10 installations will be selected to receive stipends between $2,000-$10,000. Artists should consider both the audience and outdoor environment when proposing projects. Each artwork will be operational for all festival hours throughout the event.
The festival emphasizes innovative, contemporary, uplifting, inspiring, and imaginative work using light as the primary medium. Light itself must be essential to the concept; light used only to illuminate artwork is not acceptable. Submissions may include light sculptures, light art, video art, 3D video mapping projections, LED, fiber optics, custom gobo designs, interactive works, lasers, and other light-based technologies. Both new and existing works are welcome if they meet festival themes and criteria.
The festival runs January 18 – February 16, 2025, in various downtown Napa locations. Hours are Sunday-Thursday 6:00-9:00 p.m. and Friday-Saturday 6:00-10:00 p.m. Digital artwork must be uploaded by December 9, 2024. Physical installations must arrive and be installed by January 10, 2025, and deinstalled by February 28, 2025. All sculptures and physical artwork must be powered continuously or have timers to self-activate by 6:00 p.m. each evening. Submissions must include construction overviews demonstrating durability and technical feasibility; some structures may require stamped engineering drawings. Artists retain copyright and ownership of their work. The festival is free and open to the public, with expected attendance of approximately 70,000. Eligibility is international.
