About This Call

The Midvale City RDA is calling for artists to participate in the Los Muros on Main: Midvale City Mural Festival, transforming Midvale's Historic Main Street into a vibrant arts and culture district. The festival runs June 2-7, 2025, and is part of the broader Midvale Main Arts & Culture District, which also hosts LetterWest, the Tattoo Showdown, Food Truck Tuesdays, the Midvale Performing Arts Center, and the Art House with affordable art studios.

Artists must have prior mural painting experience and provide 8-10 examples of previous mural work along with an artist bio or letter of interest. The RDA will award stipends of up to $4,500 to commissioned mural artists (US, Mexico, or Canadian citizens) or up to $4,500 in reimbursements for non-US, Mexico, or Canadian citizens, depending on wall size. This covers artist fees and expenses for design, supplies, equipment rental, insurance, and installation. The RDA covers the cost of lifts, ladders, and scaffolding, and will power wash and prep walls before installation. Artists living outside Utah's Wasatch Front receive an additional per diem of $150 per day for up to six nights and seven days. Artists located outside Utah, including those from Canada and Mexico, receive $350 to subsidize travel costs. If anti-graffiti coating is required, the RDA provides materials and pays an additional $150 for application.

Artists must be available to paint between May 24 and June 7, 2025, with painting beginning no later than June 2 and completion by June 7. At least one team member must attend the festival to finish the mural and engage with attendees. Applicants from outside the US must provide proof of a visa before the mural agreement is signed, and all artists must have or be willing to obtain liability insurance. Selection is based on artistic excellence, professionalism, communication ability, appropriateness of style for the Midvale Main area, and ability to complete the project within the required timeframe. Work must reflect the diversity and character of the area, adhere to Midvale City Public Art guidelines, and display cultural sensitivity and respect.
