About This Call
The Billboard Creative (TBC) annual exhibition offers artists the opportunity to have their work displayed on billboards throughout Los Angeles. TBC's shows place mass-scale works on dozens of billboards in strategically placed high-traffic neighborhoods near galleries, museums and art districts. Billboards by TBC artists have been passed by cars more than 67 million times. Past shows have featured artists including Ed Ruscha, Lawrence Weiner, Marilyn Minter and Paul McCarthy alongside emerging artists from across the globe.
Selected artists will receive their own billboard in Los Angeles for four consecutive weeks. TBC covers all expenses for production, mounting and leasing of the billboard. Three artists will receive $1,000 each in nonspecific art grants. Everyone who submits is eligible for the grants, whether or not their work is selected for the show. All TBC show billboards are documented after installation, with high-resolution imagery made available to participating artists for use on social media, websites and other communications. Viewers are guided through the show via a smartphone map, which provides directions for visiting multiple locations, as well as bios and links to each artist.
The Billboard Creative accepts many forms of art that can be converted to digital files (paintings, sculptures, mixed media, etc.), but does not currently accept video or audio works. Work samples should be submitted as JPEG or TIFF files, with a minimum of 1 image and maximum of 20 images. Entry fee is $28.00 plus a $9.00 media fee. International artists are eligible.
