About This Call

BoyntonArts, the City of Boynton Beach Public Art Program, seeks artists to apply to exhibit outdoor kinetic artwork for the 7th Biennial Kinetic in Boynton Beach, Florida. The exhibition provides the opportunity to present and share explorations in kinetic art where real motion, the illusion of motion, or the feeling of motion are essential attributes of the artwork. Artworks are for sale if requested by the artist. Artists may apply for multiple opportunities including indoor and/or outdoor exhibitions or installations, video presentation, and community engagement.

The 7th Kinetic Biennial is a free art exhibit and symposium held during the first weekend in February 2025 (February 1-2). Outdoor kinetic artworks will be installed for an 18-month display in downtown Boynton Beach on a 6-acre municipal campus and ¼ mile Avenue of the Arts. The opening weekend will include indoor art exhibitions, artist and designer talks, student displays, turbine demonstrations, light projections, choreographed motion performances, live music, food trucks, and artist booths. Eight ground level and raised concrete bases on the campus and five sculpture bases with 36 light poles on the Avenue of the Arts are available for temporary sculptures. A walking map brochure and GPS-based app will assist visitors in learning about artists and artworks.

Eligibility: Experienced professional artist/designer at least 18 years old, comfortable signing the Boynton Beach outdoor loan agreement. Ineligible: Members, immediate family members, and business partners of Art Advisory Board members; members of any City advisory board or City Commission; City of Boynton Beach employees. Application Requirements: Submit PDF cover letter with artist statement and contact information, resume, and up to 5 artworks available for loan (optional: links to 3 videos). Work samples: 1-5 images, 0-3 videos. Artists will be reimbursed up to $1,000 for shipping costs. Each artist will be paid up to $1,500 honorarium for loan fee, delivery, and return shipping ($750 at beginning, $750 upon return; fees may vary based on complexity and size). Artwork is insured by the City for artist's sale price or restoration cost for damage or theft; environmental damage is not insured. After the Biennial, artists may donate work to the City, hold it for up to 6 months for pickup, or request destruction. A 10% fee applies if the artist chooses to sell artwork through the Biennial. Artist attendance is preferred but not mandatory. Schedule: Applications due September 15, 2024; invitations announced October 1, 2024; artwork due January 20-26, 2025; outdoor art removal August 1, 2026.
