About This Call
The Sarah Spurgeon Gallery at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington will host the INTERSTATE juried exhibition from November 6 to December 6, 2025. Proceeds from this national exhibition will support student scholarships in the CWU Department of Art + Design. The exhibition is open to submissions in all media and subject matter; artwork does not need to follow a particular theme. The subtitle, "where I-90 meets I-82" locates the exhibition in Ellensburg and suggests the flow and exchange of artwork across geographic distances and boundaries.
The Sarah Spurgeon Gallery, founded in 1969, is dedicated to contemporary art exhibits and related outreach programs that enhance, engage, and challenge the viewer's knowledge and understanding of art. The gallery presents artists and viewers with opportunities to explore culturally diverse ideas in an academic environment. Juror Alexis L. Silva is a second generation Salvadorean American curator specializing in contemporary art with a focus on BIPOC and LGBTQ+ praxis, aesthetics, and theory. Silva currently holds the position of Curatorial Assistant at the Frye Art Museum in Seattle.
Eligibility: Open to artists over 18 working in 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, and video formats. Only original works where the artist is the sole copyright holder will be accepted. Entry deadline is August 31, 2025. Entry fee is $35 for up to five submissions. A total of five media files can be submitted, along with a brief artist bio. Notification of acceptance will be sent by email on or before September 24, 2025. Awards: First Place $700, Second Place $500, Third Place $300, and three Sarah Spurgeon Gallery Honorable Mentions. All shipped work must arrive by October 24, 2025. Hand-delivered work is accepted October 26-27, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Opening reception and juror's talk is November 6 at 4-7 p.m. All work must be ready to display with clear installation instructions. Framed 2-dimensional pieces must include wire support. The gallery provides pedestals for 3-dimensional work. Large works (over 60 inches in any direction) or heavy works (over 50 lbs.) will be accepted at the gallery's discretion. All shipping costs and insurance are the artist's responsibility. Insurance coverage is provided while works are on gallery premises. The gallery cannot assume responsibility for loss or damage in transit. The gallery does not charge commission or process sales.
