About This Call
The 2025 International Krappy Kamera Competition, hosted by Soho Photo Gallery, invites photographers to submit extraordinary photographs made with basic equipment. The competition is based on the philosophy that great photographs can be made with lousy lenses. Eligible cameras include Holga, Diana, Ansco, and pinhole cameras, or any camera with a Krappy lens (such as a pinhole body cap or Holga-type lens). Cell phones, disposables, and point-and-shoot cameras are ineligible. The lens is the determining factor—a camera being old and moldy does not qualify it as Krappy.
The competition is open to all photographers 18 years and older, excluding members of Soho Photo Gallery. There is no limitation as to subject matter. AI is only allowed in the editing of Krappy Kamera images. Submissions must include 5 to 15 images. The entry fee is $45.00 plus a $5.00 media fee.
This year's juror is Ann Jastrab, Executive Director at the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel, California. Awards include First Place $300, Second Place $200, Third Place $100, three Honorable Mentions, and a People's Choice award with gifts from sponsors. Winning photographs must be framed and wired for hanging, with a maximum height or width (including frame) of 48 inches. Photographs not suitably prepared will be excluded.
