About This Call

The City of Auburn is seeking artists and/or artist groups working in two-dimensional or small three-dimensional media to exhibit their work at City of Auburn gallery spaces in 2025. Artists working in printmaking, painting, drawing, mixed media, textiles, mosaic, glass, recycled materials, photography, calligraphy, collage, fiber art, ceramics, jewelry, metal sculptures, and other mediums are encouraged to apply. There are no location restrictions, but all work must be delivered and picked up in person in Auburn, Washington.

Two gallery spaces are available: the Cheryl Sallee Gallery at the Auburn Senior Activity Center (808 Ninth St. SE) features an Arakawa hanging system and professional gallery lighting with 8-week exhibitions of approximately 5-12 artworks. Hours are 8am-5pm Monday-Friday, with various evenings and weekends based on building rental activity. The Auburn Community & Event Center (910 Ninth Street SE) offers a spacious hallway gallery approximately 26 linear feet with professional Arakawa hanging system, gallery lighting, pedestals, and vitrines for small 3-D works. This space accommodates approximately 4-20 artworks total in 8-week exhibitions. Hours are 8am-8pm Monday-Friday and 9am-4pm Saturday.

Applications must include up to ten representative digital images (minimum 3), preferably work completed in the last two years. An artist statement describing artistic process, inspirations, techniques, or subject matter is required. Applicants may indicate preferred exhibition months and gallery location preferences. All work must be mounted or framed and securely wired (or with D-rings) and ready to hang. A selection panel including City of Auburn Arts Commissioners, artists, and community representatives will select exhibiting artists. The first available exhibition date is January 2025. Exhibitions are publicized through city press releases, social media, email, and the city website. Artists are not allowed to list artworks for sale, though private sales between artist and buyer are permitted. The City does not take commission on sales. Artists must sign an "Agreement to Exhibit" liability waiver. Exhibition spaces are not secured and there is no insurance for submitted objects.
