About This Call
Submissions are open for the 2025 Black Creativity Juried Art Exhibition at Chicago's Griffin Museum of Science and Industry. This annual show presents 100 works of art from professional and emerging Black artists from across the United States, as well as works by Black teen artists from the Chicagoland area, as part of the Museum's 55th annual Black Creativity Program.
Eligibility: General Category—Black artists 18 years of age or older ($10 entry fee). Teen Category—Black teen artists in the Chicagoland area (within 100 miles of the Museum) currently enrolled in secondary education, grades 9-12 or equivalent (no fee). Contemporary works created in any visual medium are welcome. Work must have been completed in the past three years (2022 or later), be original, unsold, and not previously selected for any Black Creativity Juried Art Exhibition. Submissions must be anonymous and made via CaFE. Work sample requirements: 1-4 total samples (images and/or videos combined, up to 4 of each type). Image specifications: JPEG/JPG, 1200 pixels minimum on longest side, file size under 5MB. Video specifications: MOV, MP4, WMV, 3GP, AVI, ASF, MPG, M2T, MKV, M2TS format, under 100MB, minimum 640x480 resolution, minimum 12 fps (30 fps recommended), or YouTube/Vimeo URL (must be public).
Size and weight restrictions: 2D hard-sided works may not exceed 96" in any direction; 2D soft works may not exceed 104" in any direction; all work may not exceed 70 lbs. 3D, oversized, heavy, and installation works will be reviewed individually based on the Museum's gallery, safety, and installation capabilities. The Museum cannot install works that hang from the ceiling or use ceiling projection. Jurors: Amina Dickerson (President, Dickerson Global Advisors), Thomas Lucas (Founder, Hummingbird Press Editions; Chair, Department of Art and Design, and Curator, University Galleries, Chicago State University), and Asha Iman Veal (Associate Curator, Museum of Contemporary Photography; Associate Professor, School of the Art Institute of Chicago). Awards—General Category: Best in Show $4,000, Second Place $2,750, Third Place $1,500. Teen Category: Best in Show $600, Second Place $375, Third Place $250. General Category award winners receive two complimentary tickets to the 2025 Black Creativity Gala. Exhibition dates: January 20–April 27, 2025.
