About This Call
Alchemy Art Center hosts a seasonal artist residency program on San Juan Island, WA for artists working in ceramics, printmaking, fiber art, or darkroom photography. The 2025 program offers three residency types with different opportunities and expectations: Teaching Artist Residency (4/15/2025 - 5/25/2025), Artists in Community Residency (5/29/2025 - 7/27/2025 or 7/31/2025 - 9/15/2025), and Special Projects Artist Residency (available spring or summer). Artists can stay for a full term or partial term, with a minimum residency of 3 weeks.
All residencies include a work exchange of 12-15 hours per week, with a substantial community engagement component. Teaching Artist AIRs contribute 12 hours per week through teaching, studio managing, and special projects with no stipend. Artists in Community and Special Projects AIRs contribute 15 hours per week and receive a $300 per month living stipend. Professional opportunities available to all AIRs include a final exhibition in the dome space, an artist talk at the San Juan Islands Museum of Art, and a shared vendor booth at the San Juan Island Farmers Market.
Applicants must be over 21 years old, work in one of the focus mediums, comfortable living semi-outdoors in communal spaces with up to 8 other people, and able to complete the weekly work exchange. Application requirements include answering all required questions, providing 6-10 work samples, a CV/resume, and references. Entry fee is $10. Application deadline is 12/1/2024 at 11:59 p.m. MST.
