2025-26 Downtown Liberty Rotating Sculpture Program

Twelve sculptures will be selected and on display from September 2025 through September 2026 in Downtown Liberty, MO. Selected artists will receive a $2,000 honorarium as well as public recognition and an opportunity for sales. The City of Liberty has the option to purchase at least one piece of art from the displayed works, with a purchase price up to $20,000.

All work must be freestanding and resilient to outdoor elements and variant temperatures (regional range 120°F to -30°F). Pieces must be aesthetically appropriate for public display with priority given to safety (no sharp edges, points, breakable components, climbing hazards, or barbed wire) and durability. Sculptures must be able to be structurally secured to a concrete pad with bolts. Materials may include metal, wood, plastic, stone, ceramic, or other durable materials. Selected artwork must be installed by September 20, 2025 and removed the first week of September 2026. Artists are responsible for transporting, installing, and removing their artwork in accordance with the timeline agreed upon with the City. The $2,000 honorarium is intended to help defray costs of transportation, installation, and de-installation; any costs exceeding this amount are the artist's responsibility. Artists may sell their work during the exhibition period, but artwork cannot be removed until the exhibition concludes in September 2026. The City of Liberty shall have first right of refusal on any sales.

Each application should contain images of one single piece of art, with up to 3 images of the same piece per application. Artists may submit up to 5 different pieces via 5 separate applications. Submissions are open to all artists regardless of location who are at least 18 years of age. All entries must be original work of safe design and construction. Proof of General Liability Insurance is required only if selected and the artist requests city staff assistance with installation. Jury notification of results will be provided by June 28, 2025.
