About This Call
The City of Alamosa is accepting entries for the 9th annual Alamosa ARTScape Art on Loan Program, a public art program open to all professional and amateur artists. Artists may submit up to 2 applications, with each application containing 1 artwork represented by 3-5 images. Submissions must be more than two feet in height and valued at no more than $50,000.
Judging will take place in March 2025, with 15 pieces selected based on originality and suitability for outdoor display. Selected artwork will be installed on September 12, 2025, and remain on display for one year. Artists receive a $1,000 honorarium for selected artwork delivered by the due date, plus two nights lodging in a local hotel on the night prior to installation and night of installation. Throughout the display period, community members will vote for a "People's Choice" award, with a $1,000 prize awarded to the selected artist.
Artwork must meet specific mounting requirements: pedestal-mounted pieces must not exceed 23 inches and have a separate metal base for welding; ground-mounted pieces must have brackets extending beyond the piece with 1/2-inch pre-drilled holes. The City of Alamosa will handle installation and insure the artwork against vandalism, theft, and motor vehicle damage during the display period, but is not liable for degradation from normal wear and tear or weathering. If artwork is sold as a result of being on display, the City will retain 20% of the sale price as commission. Installation is part of the Alamosa ARTs Festival on September 12-13, 2025, which includes an artist reception and partner events with the Alamosa Farmers' Market.
