About This Call

The Artist-in-Residence Program at Glacier National Park offers artists the opportunity to pursue their artistic discipline while being surrounded by the park's inspiring landscape. The program seeks artists whose work is related to the park's interpretative themes, supports the mission of the National Park Service, and contributes to conservation of these public lands.

The program provides four weeks of uninterrupted time to pursue artistic work. Selected artists will be housed rent-free in a furnished cabin on the shores of Lake McDonald (rustic, with no cell phone service or internet). Artists must provide their own transportation and art supplies. Residency sessions are available June 3-28 and July 1-26 in 2024, and June 2-27 and June 30-July 25 in 2025. The entry fee is $20.00. Work samples may include up to 4 images, 3 audio files, and 3 video files (4 total samples maximum).

During their residency, artists will present several public programs (demonstrations, talks, exploratory walks, or performances) related to their experience, offered on both sides of the park and possibly in the local community. Upon returning home, artists are encouraged to present one public program to their local community. Within six months of completing the residency, artists will provide digital images of selected work representing their experience; the park has the right to use these images in publications, websites, and presentations for education and outreach. Selected artists may be asked, but are not required, to donate one piece of art produced during their residency. Up to three artists may apply as collaborators if their proposed project involves multiple artistic disciplines; collaborating artists will be housed together. All applicants will be notified of decisions by November 17, 2023. A valid passport is required if accepting an invitation to visit Waterton Lakes National Park in Canada as part of the 2024/25 program.
