About This Call
The Wyoming State Parks & Cultural Resources Artist in Residence Program joins visual artists with Wyoming State Parks. This is a 10-day road trip residency in August 2024 where artists will visit a minimum of 4 state parks. Camping is required; cabins, yurts, and dorm housing will be offered. This is a joint program through Wyoming State Parks and the Wyoming Arts Council.
Eligibility: Artists must be year-round Wyoming residents and at least 18 years old. Both established and emerging artists are welcome. Applicants must have a valid driver's license, personal vehicle, and auto insurance with minimum limits of $500,000. Artists must be willing to travel and camp in Wyoming State Parks.
Requirements include: traveling to a minimum of 4 state parks over 10 days in August 2024; creating daily blog posts with photos for the Wyoming State Parks website; posting daily on social media (Facebook, Instagram) from within state parks; producing a community service component either during or within two months of the residency; creating 75% of work within Wyoming State Parks; producing a minimum of 10 pieces for the Artist in Residence Show and Sale at the Wyoming State Museum (November-January). Works are limited to 4 pieces no longer than 60" with all other works below 20". A 25% commission will be collected for Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Resources. All exhibition information must be delivered two weeks before the show's opening date. Artists must respect public lands by following use regulations and obtaining necessary permits.
The stipend is $3,500, with half payable prior to the trip and half upon completion. Camping and day use fees are waived for the 10 days. The selected artist will donate a mutually agreed upon piece of original work within one year of completion. Artists retain copyright but grant the State of Wyoming a non-exclusive, perpetual license to use images for promotional purposes. Notifications will be made by mid-May. Submit a resume, artist's statement, statement of purpose, three choices of beginning/ending dates, and up to six digital images with titles and medium. Application deadline: April 15, 2024, 11:59 p.m. MT. Contact Kimberly Mittelstadt at 307-274-6673 or [email protected].
