About This Call

The City of Northglenn in partnership with the Northglenn Arts and Humanities Foundation (NAHF) is conducting an open entry competition to select a qualified artist or artist team to design vinyl wraps for 25-30 traffic signal and utility boxes throughout the city. The selected artist/artist team will design images to be printed on vinyl and will be responsible for hiring and coordinating a third-party fabricator, file submission, and installations meeting specifications. Budget not to exceed $75,000 and includes all design, fabrication, and installation costs. The project must be completed by fall of 2024.

Designs should create a common look and connected theme across all locations, with the goal of beautifying the boxes while creating a Northglenn identity through iconography, wayfinding, color, representation, motifs, and imagery. Designs will be unique to each box but pulled from the same theme. The design should add to the vibrancy of the cityscape and create a sense of community and connection. Submitted portfolios must be original works and in compliance with all existing copyright laws. Artwork may not contain advertising, religious art, sexual, violent, or other content unsuitable for all ages and cannot convey political partisanship. Applicants should submit examples of previous murals, vinyl wrap, or public art works.

Artist/artist team applications will be evaluated on their qualifications as demonstrated by the quality of their past work and suitability of their aesthetic design for the site. Evaluation criteria include: visually engaging and contextually responsive work that creates a sense of place and produces high quality, innovative artwork; effective representation of the artwork's purpose and functional appropriateness for the canvas; awareness of surrounding environment and positive contextual response to site conditions; and demonstrated ability to work with varied stakeholders, meet project requirements, work with required materials, and execute the project within timeline and budget. Up to five artists/artist teams will be selected for a short presentation and interview. Portfolios will be screened to ensure artistic merit and appropriateness for public display. The selection committee will consist of City staff and NAHF members. For additional information, contact Director Michael Stricker at 303-450-8727 or [email protected].
