2024 Visual SciComm Exhibit: GNSI's Annual Juried Members' Exhibit

GNSI's annual juried members' exhibit showcases the best work being produced by visual science communicators today. The organization, founded in 1968 at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, boasts over 800 members across six continents and serves as a hub for connecting professionals working at the intersection of art and science. This year's exhibit will be displayed online at GNSI.org.

The exhibition is open to all GNSI members in good standing. Artists may submit up to 2 works created within the last 5 years. Student work is accepted but must be of professional quality. No photography will be accepted. Images should be submitted at the highest resolution possible and not exhibit any pixellation or blurring from file compression. Submissions must include 1-2 total samples (images and/or videos combined). The entry fee is $15.00.

Artwork will be accepted in two categories: Traditional Science Illustration and Broader Visual SciComm. Traditional Science Illustration covers visual descriptions of plants/animals, museum exhibit artwork, process descriptions, mechanical creations, chemical and genetic processes, academic presentation visuals, textbook art, and educational and interpretive visuals. Broader Visual SciComm can be in any visual arts medium, including sculpture, painting, drawing, sequential illustration, comics, graphic novels, installations, murals, animations, fiber arts, ceramics, and conceptual art. Important dates: August 26-September 22, 2024 for entries; September 23-October 13, 2024 for blind jury process; week of October 14, 2024 for notifications; October 14-October 27, 2024 for accepted artists to upload work; week of November 4, 2024 for exhibit launch on gnsi.org.
