2024 Traffic Signal Control Box Art Wraps

The City of Kent Arts Commission is seeking eight artists to create designs for traffic signal control box art wraps. Artists will each create an original design based on traffic controller cabinet specifications and locations to be provided. The artwork should provide color and vibrancy, with designs representative of elements of the Kent community encouraged.

Selected artists will receive an artistic fee of $1,000 inclusive of design, research, travel, and applicable Washington sales/use tax. Artists will provide fabrication-ready designs; the City of Kent will coordinate and cover the cost of fabrication and installation. The timeline includes artist notification by May 8, 2024, design creation May-June 2024, proposal presentations to the Kent Arts Commission on July 10, 2024, and final work submission by August 1, 2024, with fabrication and installation projected for August-September 2024.

Eligibility is limited to professional and emerging visual artists residing in Washington State, working in any medium so long as the final artwork can be translated and digitally reproduced on a two-dimensional vinyl wrap. Application materials must be submitted by April 26, 2024 at 10:59 p.m. PT and include: an artist statement (one page maximum), up to ten images of previous work with descriptions, and a resume demonstrating professional history and skills. Selection will be based on quality of past work, suitability for traffic controller cabinet locations, and capacity to consider Kent's unique community, history, and character.
