About This Call
The City of Brighton invites artists to transform traffic signal boxes into public art installations across the community. Six traffic signal boxes have been strategically selected for this project. Selected artists or artist teams will receive a $500 honorarium for their design.
Designs must conform to the provided template and cannot include political or religious content, intellectual property breaches, trademarks, images of illegal activity, advertisements, logos, signage, business promotion, or object attachments. Designs must be family-friendly, unique to Brighton, and not defame or invade the rights of any person. Submitted designs must illustrate original artwork and/or graphic design. Artists are encouraged to submit larger designs with vibrant colors for high visibility. Artwork can be created in any medium but must be provided as high-resolution digital files suitable for large-format printing (PDF, TIFF, RAW, or Vector format preferred) at 200-300 dpi, with a small JPG or PNG for jurying. Artists may submit up to three designs. Template size: 55.25H x 44.25W (front and back), 55.75H x 28.5W (sides). Designs should encompass all four sides and account for edges, corners, handles, and other physical elements.
Six pieces of artwork will be selected and divided into two categories: 18 and older (adult) and 17 and under (youth), with at least one traffic box exclusive to youth. Selection is based on artistic quality and vibrancy, appropriateness in scale and imagery, ability to translate to digital files for three-dimensional surfaces, ability to relate to multiple viewer types, and design uniqueness. Selected artists must provide artwork in PDF, TIFF, RAW, or Vector format and sign a contract with W-9 documentation. Selected artwork will be on display for up to two years, and the artist's name will be featured on the box. Eligibility: artists must reside or work in the Denver metro area. The call is open to individual artists, artist teams, or community groups with a designated lead artist. Professional and non-professional artists, including emerging artists and students, may apply. City of Brighton employees are not eligible.
