About This Call
The 2024 SECA Art Award selection process consists of thorough portfolio reviews and studio visits with finalists. In January, co-curators Maria Castro and Shana Lopes will select 16 finalists for studio visits hosted by the artists and led by the curators. Studio visits are open to SECA members and will tentatively take place on February 17, 24, March 2, and March 9.
Applicants must submit an artist statement (500 words or less), a portfolio including 7-12 representative images of works with title, date, medium, and dimensions listed, a CV, and a short bio (200 words or less). Up to 5 videos may also be included in the submission.
Eligibility Requirements: Artists must work in the Bay Area and be available for local studio visits. Nine counties qualify: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma. Artists must be out of school by the time of award announcement in May 2024. Artists must not yet have received substantial recognition by a major institution. SECA members, SFMOMA employees, and previous SECA award recipients are not eligible.
