About This Call

The 2024 Napa Lighted Art Festival seeks approximately 15 art installations for a free, open-air festival running January 20 - February 18, 2024 in downtown Napa. Selected artists will receive stipends between $2,000-$10,000. The festival is open to artists and artist collaborative groups from all disciplines working internationally. Both new proposals and existing works that meet festival themes are welcome.

The festival emphasizes light as the primary artistic medium. Light itself must be essential to the concept; light used only to illuminate artwork is not acceptable. Submissions may include light sculptures, light art, video art, 3D video mapping projections, LED, fiber optics, custom gobo designs, interactive works, lasers, and other innovative light technologies. Artists should consider the outdoor environment and audience experience when proposing projects. Artwork must be operational for all festival hours: Sunday-Thursday 6:00-9:00 p.m. and Friday-Saturday 6:00-10:00 p.m.

Submissions must include 1-20 images, and may include up to 6 audio files and 6 video files. Digital artwork must be uploaded by December 9, 2023. Physical installations must arrive by January 18, 2024 and be deinstalled by February 23, 2024. All sculptures and physical artwork must be powered continuously or have timers to turn on by 6:00 p.m. each evening. Construction must be rigid and durable to withstand winter weather conditions; stamped engineering drawings may be required for some structures. Proposals must include a construction overview demonstrating durability and must fit within allocated site budgets. The proposal budget for physical artwork must cover full installation, deinstallation, and insurance. Artists retain copyright and ownership of their work. The festival reserves the right to reproduce images for publicity and marketing purposes, and may re-exhibit selected digital artwork in future years.
