2024 International Krappy Camera Competition

The 2024 International Krappy Camera Competition, hosted by Soho Photo Gallery, invites photographers to submit extraordinary photographs made with lousy lenses. The competition is based on the philosophy that great photographs can be made with basic equipment. Eligible cameras include the Holga, Diana, Ansco, pinhole cameras, or any camera with a Krappy lens (such as a pinhole body cap or Holga-type lens). Cell phones, disposables, and point-and-shoot cameras are ineligible. The lens is the determining factor—old and moldy cameras do not qualify unless they have a Krappy lens.

The competition is open to all photographers 18 years and older, excluding members of Soho Photo Gallery. There is no limitation as to subject matter. Entrants must submit 5-15 images. The entry fee is $45.00 plus a $5.00 media fee. Winning photographs must be framed and wired for hanging, with a maximum height or width (including frame) of 48 inches.

Awards include First Place $300, Second Place $200, Third Place $100, three Honorable Mentions, and a People's Choice award. The juror is Susan Burnstine, an award-winning professional fine art and commercial photographer who builds homemade cameras and lenses. Packing and delivery instructions will be emailed to winners. Photographs not suitably prepared will be excluded.
