2024 International Alternative Processes Competition

The 2024 International Alternative Processes Competition is open to all photographers age 18 or older, excluding members of Soho Photo Gallery. Juror Aline Smithson is an interdisciplinary artist, editor, filmmaker, and educator based in Los Angeles. She is the founder and editor-in-chief of Lenscratch and has exhibited widely with over 50 solo shows at international institutions. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, The New Yorker, and PDN. She received the Rising Star Award from the Griffin Museum of Photography in 2012 and the Excellence in Teaching Award from CENTER. In 2018 and 2019, her work was exhibited in the National Portrait Gallery in London as part of the Taylor Wessing Prize. She was named a Hasselblad Heroine in 2022.

Alternative processes include, but are not limited to: Albumen, Cyanotype, Van Dyke Brown, Platinum/Palladium, Gum Bichromate, Bromoil, Salt Print, Tintype, Ziatype, Daguerreotype, Image Transfers, Liquid Emulsion, Photogravure, Chemigram, and handmade prints created from digital negatives. Traditional Silver Gelatin Prints, C-Prints, and Digital Prints are not eligible, nor can any AI-generated work be submitted. There is no limitation as to subject matter.

Entry fee is $45.00, with an additional $5.00 media fee for images beyond the first five (up to 15 total images). Submissions must include a minimum of 5 and maximum of 15 images. Awards: 1st Place $400, 2nd Place $200, and 4 Honorable Mentions. Entry deadline is September 22, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
